B. Creative Design & Services was responsible for sourcing, styling, and onsite art direction and installation of all florals for this world premiere event. This required the creative use of live arrangements, floral sculptures, hundreds of pounds of loose petals, and production of thousands of paper marigolds.
Participating in the US premiere of PIXAR's COCO remains a cherished experience. The event was a colorful and festive celebration, masterfully envisioned by designer Greg Lucas. It took place under a massive tent that spanned Hollywood Blvd, combining both the premiere and pre-party into one seamless experience. The festivities kicked off with a lively performance by a full mariachi band, accompanied by dancers who made their way through a carpet blanketed in fresh marigold petals.
B. Creative sourced thousands of fresh marigolds for the event. We hired an artistic florist renowned for her marigold garlands and floral sculptures. Excited to be involved in such a significant occasion, the family-owned florist and her team created two unique floral sculptures, crafted hundreds of feet of fresh marigold garlands, and supplied hundreds of pounds of loose petals.
We styled and propped a charming flower cart that added a festive touch as guests arrived at the pre-party. It quickly turned into a popular spot for photo ops, attracting A-list celebrities like Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff, who were among the attendees that evening.
The pre-party's entrance featured an enormous archway adorned with a mix of plants and potted marigolds, enhancing the Día de los Muertos celebration. Inside the tent, guests were greeted by stilt walking jugglers dressed in mariachi costumes, strands of brightly colored Coco-themed papel picado banners were swagged overhead. To cater to guests with potential allergies to marigolds, and with a lot of help from the cast members at the El Capitan Theatre, we handmade the thousands of intricate paper marigolds used inside the tent.
The most challenging assignment was to craft eight uniquely styled ofrendas, each intended to be the centerpiece for buffets and bars. The client specified we completely avoid using any traditional elements like photos, skeletons, or religious symbols, typically central to ofrendas. In response, our focus shifted to using vibrant fruits, authentic pottery and decorations, marigolds, and plenty of candles to create the desired ambiance. To round off the presentation, we featured freshly baked loaves of Pan de Muerto at each ofrenda, ensuring a connection to tradition within the creative boundaries set by the client. The ofrendas were a hit with the guests, resulting in an additional order for more to be used in several Coco-themed events at the El Capitan Theatre.
